Where these fertilizers go to work

Fertilizer is bought against a soil test and a planting calendar, not a brand. Nitrogen, phosphate and potash each answer a different limit in the soil, and the product that fixes one will do nothing for the next. Everything here is supplied in bulk, for commercial growing rather than garden quantities.

  • Base dressing before planting

    A compound NPK goes in with or before the seed so phosphate and potassium sit where young roots will find them. The ratio comes off the soil test, which is why the same farm orders a different blend on different blocks.

  • Nitrogen top dressing

    Urea, CAN and ammonium nitrate carry the crop through its growth stages. Urea is the cheapest nitrogen per unit, but it loses to the air if it is not worked in or rained in soon after spreading.

  • Starter phosphate

    DAP and MAP put soluble phosphorus next to the seed for early root establishment. MAP is the safer of the two beside germinating seed and the better fit on alkaline soils.

  • Potassium for quality and stress tolerance

    Muriate of potash drives grain fill, tuber bulking and fruit quality, and it holds a crop together through drought and disease pressure. Chloride-sensitive crops are the exception worth naming at enquiry.

Which fertilizer do I need: NPK, urea or DAP?

It depends on what your soil is short of and what stage the crop is at. A compound NPK covers a general base dressing, urea and CAN supply nitrogen once the crop is growing, and DAP or MAP go in at planting for phosphorus. Send the soil analysis and the crop and GCS quotes against it rather than guessing.

What quantities can I order?

Bulk only: 50 kg bags on pallets, one-tonne bulk bags, or full loads for a season programme. There is no retail supply on this range, and pricing improves with volume, so it is worth quoting the whole season rather than one field at a time.

How should bulk fertilizer be stored between deliveries?

Dry, off the floor, and out of direct sun. Urea and ammonium nitrate both pull moisture from the air and cake once they have, which is what turns a spreader-ready product into a blocked hopper. Ammonium nitrate has its own storage and security rules, so confirm what applies where you are before the load is scheduled.

What documentation comes with a fertilizer order?

A specification sheet stating nutrient analysis and granule size, plus a safety data sheet, ships with every consignment. Certificates of analysis for the specific batch and any import or phytosanitary paperwork are issued on request. Ask at quotation stage if your buyer or your regulator needs them on file.
