MAP Fertilizer 11-52-0 carries 52% phosphorus as P2O5 and reacts acidic as it dissolves, with a solution pH between 4 and 4.5. CAS 7722-76-1, formula NH4H2PO4. That acidity is the reason MAP is specified on alkaline and calcareous soils, where phosphate applied as an alkaline product locks up with calcium before the crop can reach it. The acidic pocket around a dissolving MAP granule keeps phosphorus in solution long enough to be taken up. It releases no free ammonia, which makes it the safer of the two ammonium phosphates for seed-placed starter applications. Granules run 2-4 mm with moisture at or below 1.5%. Water-soluble technical grades for fertigation are a separate product and must be named at enquiry; the granular field grade will block emitters. Supplied in 50 kg bags, one-tonne bulk bags or loose in bulk.

Handling and storage

Not classified as hazardous. Hygroscopic, so store sealed, dry and off the floor. The acidic reaction makes MAP the safer phosphate near seed, but it is also mildly corrosive to mild steel in damp conditions, so clean and dry the spreader after use rather than leaving product in the hopper overnight.
