Description
Gandi Chemical Solutions supplies N-Butyl Vinyl Ether (Butyl Vinyl Ether) 98% (CAS 111-34-2) to manufacturers, water treatment plants and industrial processors. Enquiries for N-Butyl Vinyl Ether 98% are quoted against this listing. Priced by quotation, with a current safety data sheet on every consignment.
N-Butyl vinyl ether polymerizes into polyvinyl butyl ether resins used in pressure-sensitive adhesives, chewing-gum base, and specialty coatings, and also serves as a comonomer to modify film flexibility in copolymer systems. It’s flammable and reactive with acids/peroxides, so it’s stabilized and stored cool, away from oxidizers.
Where n-butyl vinyl ether 98% is used
- Comonomer in pressure-sensitive adhesive and coating resins
- Reactive diluent in cationic UV-cure systems
- Intermediate for acetal and specialty solvent manufacture
- Modifier for flexibility in vinyl ether copolymers
Key features
- CAS 111-34-2, C6H12O.
- Also ordered as Butyl Vinyl Ether, Vinyl butyl ether, Butoxyethene.
- Packed to your requirement, supplied inhibited.
Specification and grade
N-butyl vinyl ether at 98%, CAS 111-34-2, formula C₆H₁₂O. The longer alkyl chain against ethyl vinyl ether raises the boiling point substantially and lowers volatility, which makes it easier to handle and gives more flexible copolymers. Supplied inhibited.
Handling and storage
Flammable, peroxide-forming and acid-sensitive in the same way as the other vinyl ethers, but far less volatile, so vapour control is less demanding. Store cool, dark and inhibited, away from acids and oxidisers, with bonded and earthed transfer. Test for peroxides before any distillation or concentration step.
Packaging and supply
Packed to your requirement, supplied inhibited. If the material feeds a polymerisation, tell us your inhibitor tolerance — the type and level can matter to the reaction and we can quote against a specified stabiliser.

Common questions
How does it differ from ethyl vinyl ether in a copolymer?
The butyl chain acts as an internal plasticiser, giving a softer, more flexible copolymer with a lower glass transition temperature. Ethyl vinyl ether gives a harder film. Blending the two is a common way to tune flexibility.
Is it easier to handle than ethyl vinyl ether?
Yes, mainly because it is far less volatile. The flammability, peroxide formation and acid sensitivity are all still present; the vapour hazard during transfer is much reduced.
How long can it be stored?
Inhibited and kept cool and dark, months rather than years. Peroxide risk rises with age and air exposure. Date containers on receipt and rotate stock.
