Sodium cyanide remains the standard reagent for leaching gold and silver from ore through cyanidation, and it also sees use in electroplating and organic synthesis. GCS supplies it at a minimum 98% purity as white briquettes or granular powder, always in sealed, lined containers built for hazardous transport under IMDG, UN, and SANS rules. Given its acute toxicity, handling calls for trained personnel, full PPE, and site procedures that account for accidental acid contact, which releases lethal hydrogen cyanide gas. Specification and grade

Supplied at minimum 98% purity as white briquettes or granular powder, CAS 143-33-9, readily soluble in water. Briquettes are the usual form for a mine site because they dissolve in a controlled way and generate far less dust than powder. Product is supplied to IMDG, UN and SANS standards.

Handling and storage

Acutely toxic by every route, and fatal in small quantities. The controlling risk is contact with acid: any acid, including carbonic acid from CO₂ in a damp store, liberates hydrogen cyanide gas. Storage must be dry, alkaline-buffered, locked, ventilated and physically segregated from every acid on site. Cyanide antidote provision, gas detection, trained responders and an emergency plan are prerequisites, not improvements. Handling is restricted to trained and authorised personnel.
