Description
Gandi Chemical Solutions supplies Caustic Soda Flakes 99% / Sodium Hydroxide Flakes 99% (CAS 1310-73-2) to manufacturers, water treatment plants and industrial processors. The 99% flake is the traditional bulk solid: cheaper per tonne of NaOH than pearls, and the form specified where solution is batched by hand rather than metered through a feeder. This 99% flake grade is a premium caustic soda specification used where higher purity is required, such as in soap/detergent manufacturing, textile processing, and sensitive chemical synthesis. Same corrosive/moisture-reactive handling precautions as other caustic soda grades apply — full PPE and dry, sealed storage.

Specification and grade
Sodium hydroxide at 99%, CAS 1310-73-2, supplied as white fused deliquescent flakes. Flake is the traditional bulk solid form: it is cheaper per tonne of NaOH than pearls and dissolves readily, but it carries more dust and is less consistent through a screw feeder.
Handling and storage
Corrosive — severe skin burns and eye damage — and corrosive to metals. Dissolving is strongly exothermic: add flake to a large volume of cool water with agitation running, never the reverse, and never into a closed vessel. Sodium hydroxide attacks aluminium, zinc and tin and generates hydrogen doing so, so those metals must be excluded from the make-up system. Keep bags sealed; the flake is deliquescent and turns to caustic slurry in a damp store.
Packaging and supply
Supplied in standard 25kg bags and larger units on request. If solution make-up is a daily job, ask us to quote lye at 32% or 50% alongside the flake — removing the dissolving step usually pays for itself in handling risk alone.

Common questions
Flakes or pearls?
Identical chemistry, different physical form. Pearls are near-spherical, flow cleanly through feeders and generate much less dust, which matters where dosing is automated. Flakes are cheaper per tonne and are fine where solution is batched by hand into an open tank with extraction.
How much heat does dissolving actually release?
Enough to take a concentrated make-up batch close to boiling. Roughly 1.1 kJ per gram of NaOH dissolved. Add slowly to cool water, keep the agitator running, and size the batch so the tank can shed the heat.
Why must aluminium be kept out of the system?
Caustic soda attacks aluminium, zinc and tin, dissolving the metal and releasing hydrogen. In an enclosed tank or line that becomes an explosion risk as well as a corrosion problem. Use carbon steel, 316 stainless or HDPE.
