Titanium dioxide supplier
Gandi Chemical Solutions supplies rutile titanium dioxide — CAS 13463-67-7 — to paint, coating and plastics manufacturers in three pigment grades: sulphate-process R-298 for coatings, sulphate-process R-248 for plastics, and chloride-process CR-350 where brightness and exterior durability decide the specification.
Grades held
3 grades of rutile titanium dioxide, CAS 13463-67-7. Each one links to its full specification, safety data and packaging.
-
R-298 — paints and coatings
Sulphate process, 94% TiO₂
Surface-treated with alumina and silica for the coatings market: the treatment controls dispersion, gloss and chalking resistance on exterior exposure.

-
R-248 — plastics
Sulphate process
Treated for thermal stability and low volatiles, because a plastics pigment has to survive extrusion at 200°C and above without lacing or yellowing.

-
CR-350 — chloride process
Chloride process
A narrower particle size distribution than the sulphate route, which shows up as higher brightness, a cleaner blue undertone and better gloss. Treated for plastics and exterior durability.

What decides the grade
All three are rutile — the dense, high-refractive-index crystal form, which is what delivers opacity. What separates them is how they were made and what the surface was treated for.
-
Sulphate or chloride process
Chloride-process pigment carries a narrower particle size distribution, so it reads brighter, cleaner in undertone and glossier. Sulphate-process grades cost less and are entirely adequate wherever undertone is not being matched against a standard.
-
Coatings grade or plastics grade
They are not interchangeable, and the difference is in the surface treatment rather than in the pigment. A coatings grade is treated for dispersion, gloss and chalking resistance; a plastics grade is treated for thermal stability and low volatiles at extrusion temperature.
-
Exterior exposure
Anything that weathers needs a durable grade. Chalking on an exterior coating and colour drift on an outdoor polyolefin are the same failure, and both are decided by the treatment before the formulation is written.
-
Undertone and brightness
Where a white is being matched — premium compounds, engineering plastics with a colour specification — undertone is the property being bought, and CR-350 is the grade that carries it.
Supply, documentation and handling
Packaging
25kg bags and jumbo bags, packed to your requirement. State whether the pigment is hand-charged or conveyed, because the pack size follows from it.
Documentation
A safety data sheet ships with every consignment. A certificate of analysis covering TiO₂ content and surface treatment is issued on request.
Storage
Dry and sealed. Rutile pigment is chemically stable, but a bag left open picks up moisture and the lumps that follow are a dispersion problem rather than a pigment problem.
How it is quoted
Priced by quotation. Send the application, whether the part is exposed outdoors, and the monthly tonnage, and GCS quotes the grades worth comparing.
Before you order titanium dioxide
What is the difference between sulphate and chloride process titanium dioxide?
The route the pigment was made by, and what that leaves behind. Chloride-process pigment has a narrower particle size distribution, which delivers higher brightness, a cleaner blue undertone and better gloss. Sulphate-process pigment costs less and performs well wherever undertone is not being matched to a standard.
Can a coatings grade be used in plastics?
It should not be. A plastics grade is surface-treated for thermal stability and low volatiles so it survives extrusion above 200°C; a coatings grade is treated for dispersion, gloss and chalking resistance in a liquid system. Running a coatings grade through an extruder is how lacing and yellowing start.
Which grade holds its colour outdoors?
CR-350 for plastics that weather, and R-298 for exterior coatings. Both are treated for durability, which is the property that keeps an exterior surface from chalking and an outdoor compound from drifting in colour.
Why is rutile specified rather than anatase?
Rutile is the denser crystal form with the higher refractive index, and refractive index is what opacity is bought on. It is also the more durable of the two under ultraviolet exposure, which is why every grade on this page is rutile.
